Day 3: Wakin’ Up at Wee Hours and The Return of Downtown Disney

Greetings fellow blog readers, Disney fanatics, and people who somehow were messing with website URL’s and stumbled upon my blog recently. Day 3 of my DCP concluded last night and, despite the only four hours of sleep I got from waking up at….well, 4 AM, it was another great day in the history of the “Doin’ it Disney” DCP. The day started with having to catch a bus at The Commons (one of the four Disney College Program apartment dorms, for those unfamiliar with the cool lives we live) to pick up a new social security card. Not sure why I woke up so early considering the bus was at 6, but I’ll just chalk it up to enthusiasm mixed with a teaspoon of Disney magic and an even larger teaspoon of stupidity. The process for getting the card was elongated and often times dull, but I met some new people and talked to them the entire time so overall it wasn’t a bad experience (well, aside from the rough smells in the bus).

Afterward the social security nonsense, I came back and went to the gym. I’m getting really fit at Goofy’s Gasping for Air Gymnasium. That’s made up, by the way, it’s just the gym at Patterson. But didn’t that title sound convincing AND awesome simultaneously? It did to me. Anyhow, I’m definitely planning on getting more fit while here at the program, though I was already pretty fit coming into the program (working in a kitchen for almost two years will do to that a guy). After getting swole time, I came back so my roommate and I could get some errands done. Errands I don’t really wish to get that much into. They were errands though, Disney errands. So I guess that makes them special in that regard.

After our “Disney errands”, which included the Housing Meeting (a very long speaker meeting, but a mandatory one, and it was sprinkled from head to toe with that infamous “Disney magic”) and getting parking decals, myself and two of my roommates went to Downtown Disney and I bought a Mickey tie for Traditions. Yes, I bought a 40 dollar Mickey tie at the World of Disney store. You may question my decision making, and that’s fine, but when you really sit down and think about it…don’t you all wish you had a Mickey Mouse tie to wear? We all know you do. After getting my tie, we navigated the mean streets of Downtown Disney some. We even inadvertedly walked into the Disney Trends store, which come to find out is all female related merchandise. So that was….totally awkward to say the least (Why can’t men be trendy at Disney too, I wonder?).

We all got a quick bite to eat at Bodie’s and Pollero’s. I tried out a tres leche, which was pretty much a mushy cake that tasted like vanilla ice cream with milk at the bottom. Hard to explain, not hard at all to enjoy thoroughly. After my interesting food choice, we all came back to the apartment to wind down. I took a good half hour or so learning how to tie a tie (Next time Mickey, sell some zip on or clip on ties), and then it was off to bed for Day 4. Day 4 oughta be fun, it’s my Disney Traditions class and potentially an opportunity to go the parks for the first time on our trip. Time will only tell how fun that should be. I can probably tell too…it’s gonna be great. Thanks for reading, boys and girls, and tune in tomorrow for another blog, edition, entry, etc. Always remember, that when life gets you down, keep on “Doin’ it Disney“.

  1. Wow Kyle I really like your blog and so does PaPa. It keeps us up to date with your comings and goings. Looking forward to Day 5. We love you and are glad you have this opportunity. Dad wants you to know he is proud as well. You might want to call him cause he really misses you just as much as the rest of us. Love you Mom

    • Thanks BB. Definitely back on track again, so thanks for staying patient with me. It’s been a busy last few days, and Mickey is working me to the brim, but I got this. I go live on Movie Ride tomorrow, so I’m pretty excited about that. Hope to see you at the movies, the stuff dreams are made of.
